Kate Foster is a Black Nova Scotian writer.

Born in Halifax to a White mother and unknown East African father, she was adopted into a White family and grew up in the Annapolis Valley. With a background in law and literature, she has worked as a lawyer, researcher and advocated for reform of adoption disclosure laws. She spent many years searching for her own family roots. Her writing explores local Black history and themes of loss, belonging, identity and family dynamics. Her fiction and non-fiction have been published in a variety of literary journals and on the Halifax Public Libraries Blog. She lives in Dartmouth and works part-time in a family business.
